How each one works

Screen printing pushes plastisol or water-based ink through a mesh stencil, one screen per colour, then heat-cures it. Direct-to-garment printing sprays water-based pigment straight into pre-treated cotton, like an inkjet printer for fabric, then cures it.

Detail and colour

DTG wins on gradients, photographic imagery and fine type — there is no colour-count penalty, so a six-colour design costs the same as one. Screen printing wins on solid opaque blocks, especially light ink on dark garments, where a screen-printed white is brighter than a DTG white.

Hand feel

DTG has almost no hand feel: run your palm over the print and you mostly feel cotton. A heavy plastisol screen print sits on top as a distinct film. For minimalist type, that matters — the reason our designs read as part of the shirt rather than stuck to it.

Durability

Properly cured screen prints last longer under abuse, full stop. A well-cared-for DTG print holds for years but is less forgiving of hot washes and hot dryers, which is why the care routine genuinely matters.

Cost, waste and speed

Screen printing has a per-screen setup cost, so it only makes sense in bulk — which means brands pre-print hundreds of units per design and discount or landfill what does not sell.
